Speaker - Dayna Bennett

"The Nuts and Bolts of Writing From an Editor's Perspective"

Topics include:

  • Word Counts and what's typical by genre
  • Genre categories and how to know where your book fits
  • Types of editing and what you can expect to pay for each
  • Common mistakes I see in manuscripts and how to save money on editing by learning to "self-edit" before you hire an editor

Dayna Bennett is an editor, writer, and educator who has served on the advisory board for the Central Coast Writers Conference, where she taught workshops for beginning writers. She serves on the National Board of the Women's National Book Association and edits for Writer's Digest Second Draft. Her articles, short stories and essays have been published in online journals, such as Sweatpants and Coffee, in local press, and she shares thought pieces and personal essays on her blog AllThatIsNext.com

As an editor, Dayna has helped writers of all backgrounds polish their prose and develop their stories for publication. Dayna’s forthcoming novel, A Light Left Behind, is a contemporary romance with hints of the supernatural.

Dayna lives on the Central Coast with her two kids, two dogs, and one furious cat. She believes in the power of storytelling and will always be an optimist at heart.

Round Tables Critique Sessions begin at 5:15 pm

Terry Sanville and  Mark Arnold will be here to critique your work

Please keep your submission to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double spaced. This is a great—and safe—way to see what the critiquing process is all about, get valuable feedback from two fantastic writers, and practice reading your work to a small audience

This is an opportunity to get feedback on your work in progress and practice your constructive critiquing skills. It is also a great way to get to know other writers in our group. You do not have to bring along work to participate. Please keep submissions to double-spaced, 12 font, two pages.

Please email your submissions to Terry and Mark by the Saturday before the session:
