The Pathway to Publication and Beyond

February 8, 2022

Writers have many options for getting their words into the world. Options include the major traditional publishers, small or academic presses, hybrid publishers, indie and self-publishing, and formats other than print books. So many possibilities!

Which one is right for you? It depends on many factors, including your book, the audience you’re trying to reach, what you hope to achieve, and more. In this session, we’ll discuss the main factors to consider as you ponder your best path to publication and beyond. We'll talk through examples and examine how to think about this issue for yourself and other author friends.

Anne Janzer is a member of SLO NightWriters. Anne is an award-winning author, unabashed writing geek, and cognitive science fan on a mission to help people communicate more effectively.

As a professional writer, Anne spent years writing for scores of technology companies. That experience led her to write her first book, about marketing for the subscription economy. Once she started writing books, she was hooked. She's now written four books about writing.

Anne blogs about writing at, where you can sign up for her Writing Practices list or online courses.

Round Tables Critique Sessions begin at 5:15 pm

Terry Sanville and  Mark Arnold will be here to critique your work

Please keep your submission to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double spaced. This is a great—and safe—way to see what the critiquing process is all about, get valuable feedback from two fantastic writers, and practice reading your work to a small audience

This is an opportunity to get feedback on your work in progress and practice your constructive critiquing skills. It is also a great way to get to know other writers in our group. You do not have to bring along work to participate. Please keep submissions to double-spaced, 12 font, two pages.

Please email your submissions to Terry and Mark ahead of time:
