SLO NightWriters 33rd Golden Quill Writing Contest

Contest Theme:

"Masks"

Feel free to interpret this theme literally or figuratively, but remember that our judges need to find your work relates to the theme.

Call For Entries:  Entries will be accepted from May 1, 2022 until May 31, 2022.

Genres and Length Guidelines:

Short Story:  Between 1000 and 2,000 words.

Creative Non-Fiction/Memoir:  Between 1000 and 2000 words

Poetry:  Up to 60 lines

Eligibility: The contest is open to all SLO NightWriters members and to all non-members who are residents of San Luis Obispo County.

Judging: Judges will not be members of SLO NightWriters.

Prizes: The size of the prizes will be determined by the number of entries; all fees will go toward prizes. There will be a first and second prize in each category.

Award Ceremony: Depending on the situation with COVID 19, we hope to have a live award ceremony at which the winners will read their work. If we are not able to meet in person, we will have the ceremony on Zoom as our June monthly meeting. SLO NightWriters will publicize the event and the winners in local print and social media.

Submission of Entries:  Entries may be submitted by email or postal mail.

Entry fees: SLO NightWriters members  $10 per entry
  Non-members  $20 per entry

 

Individuals may submit more than one entry, but the fee must be paid for each entry.

  Please submit your payment at the same time you submit your entry.

Formatting:

Electronic submissions should be in docx or pdf format.

Mailed entries will be scanned to pdf format before being sent to the judges.

All entries should be in 12-point type, with at least one-inch margins, and sequentially numbered pages. Fiction and nonfiction entries should be double-spaced. Poetry entries should be double-spaced, although creative spacing and formatting is permitted.

Please provide a separate cover page with the author’s name, address, telephone number, and email address as well as the genre of writing your submission falls in.  Do not put your name on the submission itself so that you remain anonymous to the contest judges. Contest entrants are asked to include a brief biographical note on the cover page.
