Resolute

by Margaret Lange

I am a hard-packed sandstone bluff.

It will take generations to wear me down.

I am a newborn burning star.

It will be millennia before I fizzle.

You can wait if you want to,

            it won’t change a thing

I am a prehistoric weta cricket,

a solitary edge-dweller staving off extinction.

I am a mysterious RNA virus,

a quarry of many disguises eluding capture.

You can follow if you want to,

just stay where I can see you.

I am the resolute rising and setting.

You can watch if you want to.

            It’s free.
