General Meeting, July 11th, 2023 - 6.30 p.m.
Our Speaker will be Kit Johnson
"Frozen Voices, a Speech Therapist’s Alaskan memoir."
'From Silence to Sound.'
Our presenter for July, is Kit Roberts Johnson, a licensed speech-language pathologist. Like most of us, she has a work in progress.
In her case, it’s a memoir about her work in Alaska, flying to over 30 villages and towns to deliver services and boldly go where no speech therapists had before.
In addition to her knowledge as a speech pathologist, Kit is also a researcher of the philosophy of the origins of phonemes and speech. She presented one such ancient philosophy at The Science and Nonduality Conference Center for Consciousness Studies, University of Arizona, in San Rafael, California, 2009.
As such, she reported on the philosophical underpinnings of phonemes, words, and sentences, the things we use as writers, no matter what genre we write in, and the properties that belong to human beings alone.
She will show you that, as human beings, you are the masters of phonemes and, therefore, everything that is created. When you realize who you are, how you have unlimited imagination, more freedom, and more power through phonemes, you will become more successful in everything you do.
During the program, she will take you from silence to sound and increase your awareness of the limitations some people face with language comprehension and how we improve it. She will take you through research-validated information and treatment methods to help you understand how people are confused by phonemes and understanding language.
She will demonstrate simple cognitive-language techniques to sharpen your imagination and apply them to your writing so that all people can better understand you. She promises something different you have never seen before and may never see again, to hold in your own hand and never forget

Round Tables Critique Sessions begin at 5:15 pm
Terry Sanville and Mark Arnold will be here to critique your work
Please keep your submission to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double spaced. This is a great—and safe—way to see what the critiquing process is all about, get valuable feedback from two fantastic writers, and practice reading your work to a small audience.
This is an opportunity to get feedback on your work in progress and practice your constructive critiquing skills. It is also a great way to get to know other writers in our group. You do not have to bring along work to participate. Please keep submissions to double-spaced, 12 font, two pages.
Please email your submissions to Terry and Mark by the Saturday before the session.
