27th Central Coast Writers’ Conference at Cuesta College


It’s affordable! It’s intimate! It’s interactive! It’s almost here! September 16-17, 2011!

It’s state-of-the-art industry today! It’s diverse in terms of genres! It’s for the aspiring writer to the seasoned published author to learn, network and be inspired.

It’s the 27th Annual Central Coast Writers’ Conference at Cuesta College and SLO NightWriters is a major supporter of the event.

Registration is still open at only $159. The price will go up after September 12, 2011, so register this week.

More than 32 workshops on blogging, marketing, making a scene, setting, mystery, thriller, YA, poetry, plot.

Three publishers, 2 editors, 2 poets, an agent and 7 award-winning authors in diverse genres.

The Keynote Speaker will be Jonathan Maberry, author of the 3-book Joe Ledger thriller series, which includes Patient Zero, a multiple Bram Stoker Award winner that has been optioned by Sony Films. Maberry's Young Adult novel Rot and Ruin has won many awards, and the sequel Dust and Decay just came out this month. His comic and graphic novels are published by Marvel Comics. Besides opening the conference, Jonathan -- who's coming all the way from Pennsylvania -- will present workshops on Writing for YA and Writing the Thriller.


Mark Coker, CEO of Smashwords.com, will keynote a pre-conference workshop and close the conference with his comments about the state of today’s publishing industry. Plus he will demonstrate how to download your eBook and have it online for sales in 48 hours or less. Wow!

Chevron "Tech, Toys and Tools for Writers in the Digital Age,"a pre-conference workshop. Friday, September 16th, Noon to 4:30 pm.

Whether you can attend the entire conference or just want to learn how to download for sales with Smashwords.com, market your books traditionally or ePub. Presented by Mark Coker of Smashwords.com, agent Laurie McLean and Cuesta instructor and author Deborah Bayles. Also, demonstrations of the latest digital devices by Mike at San Luis Obispo’s MAC SuperStore.

Only $40 until September 12th or $45 at the door.

Teens! Know a Teen? Are you a Teen member? We have full scholarships to the conference, courtesy of PG&E.

Victoria Heckman, Teen Coordinator has four titles in her K.O.’d in Hawaii Series both in print and online. She will continue to guide and answer questions for the teens participating in the 2011 PG&E Teen Writers’ Program at the Central Coast Writers’ Conference. Teen Faculty Presenters for 2011 are Jonathan Maberry, Mark Coker, Penny Warner, Abigail Samoun, and Anthony Peckham plus two presenters selected by each Teen based on their interest area in social media, fiction, nonfiction, drama, poetry or publishing.
